What is an adventure/escape room?
Essentially, you get locked in a room with other humans. The room itself is an intricately designed puzzle matrix with smaller puzzles inside that you must solve to escape in a set time (usually 1 hour).
These games are commonly known as ‘escape rooms, escape games, live escape, adventure rooms). They all reference a similar concept with a difference being the underlying theme or genre.
The goal for these games is to normally find the final key or final puzzle which will release you from your adrenaline inducing captivity. You and your expert MacGyver team need to find the final key and get out of the room or the menacing Mad Scientist will hold you hostage forever.
Hang on a minute…did you say locked in….?
What if I panic? What if I never see my dog again? Woah buddy, relax. At Adventure Rooms Rotorua, you are technically not ‘Locked’ in the room. Ruin my fun. There is a fire escape door for health and safety. Many escape rooms around the world you are locked in and can’t get out for some air even if you bribe the games master.
Okay, I get it…It’s like saw.
Exactly, if you don’t successfully escape the room we throw away the key and forget about you. Come on people…. These games are 100% safe and not even remotely intimidating. They are fun and even a bit hilarious when you get the right mix of handcuffs & brain chemistry going on. I repeat. No loss of limbs, no psychological warfare and absolutely no spontaneous combustion.
There is a sub genre of ‘Horror’ escape games which are designed to scare humans. but we at Adventure Rooms Rotorua are not in the business of making nightmares. We prefer smiles and laughing so hard your snort a little.
Alright, so how long am I usually in these things for?
Most rooms have a 60-minute timer so you and your team can keep an eye on the clock while you escape. There is usually a brief, check-in, team photo and Q&A post escape so allow yourself approx. 90 minutes.
Can I bring my friends?
You know it. We recommend escaping with your buddies and work colleagues. It’s always better when you know the people you are locked inside with.
But there is one friend I really don’t want to be locked in a room with.
Bring him anyway because he might have some good skills, like maths.
Yes! Some rooms around the world require basic mental strength and general knowledge of maths. There are rooms rumoured to require calculus. Adventure Rooms Rotorua does not require Pythagoras theorem but we do ask you to bring along your common sense.
Okay so how many people can we fit in a room?
We recommend 2-7 players in the standard game and 8-14 in the duel adventure which is unique to adventure rooms. These number vary depending where you are playing a game.
Alright let’s get down to business, how much is this going to cost me?
Well, depending on the size of your group – and the coupon code you can get your paws on. A rooms average price is around $30 per player. This depends on where you are in the world. You can check out our pricing here.
Did you say world?
Yes! These are taking over the world. Adventure Rooms has over 27 locations and New Zealand is a proud number 27!
Are they hard?
Well our escape rate is 30% and we have done our research that a few places around the globe have escape rates from 15-40% which is quite low.
