#2 Thursday Night Market
Depending on the time of year you visit our gorgeous city, as we have a relatively high altitude, we do get a little rain here and there. One of our favourite activities till 9.30pm every Thursday is the Night market. The market boasts a beautiful collection of home ware’s, dining, live music and assorted kid friendly events. Adventure Rooms is a minute walk from the market so you can arrange an escape then dinner right after…how convenient. Check out market details here.
#3 Beers, Buddies and moreish food for a cool winter evening.
If you are looking for a friendly atmosphere to eat some world-famous food and talk about your recent escape, one of the best spots in town is ‘Eat Street’. To the lake-front end of Tutanekai Street we have a covered strip with 14 bars and restaurants catering for all types of fussy eaters. For a local craft beer head to Brew bar and for scrumptious staggered meals to share with the whole table be sure to try Atticus Finch.
#4 If you are anything like us we L-O-V-E a good barista made coffee.
Rotorua is home to some amazing baristas and we think the best time to grab a late-night coffee is around 8.30pm following an escape. Capers is on Eruera street, they are a local operation who make a coffee so good you will have to post it on Facebook for your grandma to see. The best part is that its family friendly, open late and the food is also suitable for those with vegan, vegetarian and gluten free requirements.
#5 Two amazing activities in 1 central location
If the weather turns on you whilst visiting our lovely city, have no fear ‘The wall and Basement cinema’ are here. Just a block over from us (we are happy to give directions) is a nifty art house style cinema and 20-metre-high indoor rock-climbing wall, open till 9.30pm. If being like spider man is your thing, or a Sun dance film – This is a great spot you must check out.
#6 For all those left foot dancers out there like us
We recommend Rotorua’s finest historical pub ‘The pig and Whistle’ for a quick drink or 2 and a boogie. We hear the curly fries are the best you’ll ever have and Saturdays are usually pumping with a live band. So, head to Tutanekai Street and we will see you on the dance floor!
#7 Can we get dessert?
All this escaping can work up a serious appetite, one of the most scrumptious desserts talked about by the locals here is tucked away in one of Rotorua’s hidden gems. Abracadabra. The menu is raved about and we can’t fault them on anything. You will always be greeted with a smile and the best margarita’s in town. Check them out here.
#8 Bring your jackets because we are headed outside to climb trees.
Literally. Have an adventure with natures giants and Redwood tree walk. Its consists of 23 suspension bridges between some of the most majestic 110-year-old Redwoods. This is Absolutely breath taking going on dusk. It’s a little out of the city but you can find all their details here.
#9 To be cultured, or not to be cultured, that is the question.
Rotorua is a top spot for comedians & musicians hailing from all parts of the globe. If you are looking for a bit of razzle-dazzle in your evening we recommend checking out the upcoming events through; The Sir Howard Morrison performing arts centre, Casablanca theater and the Blue baths. A wonderful way to stay updated is the following link here with Rotorua Events here.
#10 Too cool? Get in a hot pool.
It’s safe to say one of the best things about living in such close quarters to all this geothermal activity is that we get the benefits of a warm spa whenever we like. Rotorua has various spots around town that have excellent facilities like ‘The Polynesian Spa’ and one of our favourites is free and just a 20-minute drive from the CBD. Make sure you ask your game-master where it is when you arrive at Adventure Rooms so you can enjoy one of Rotorua’s best kept secrets.
That concludes our top 10 things to do after dark In Rotorua. There are SO many other amazing bars, restaurants and activities you can do in Rotorua that listing only 10 of them was really hard! If you are a movie buff or a coffee connoisseur there is something for everyone to do after dark in Rotorua.
